The University of Nicosia invites applications for the role of Junior Laboratory Technologist – Analytical Chemistry to join the Analytical Chemistry Unit at UNIC Athens. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to contribute to advanced analytical research while developing expertise in state-of-the-art laboratory technologies and instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive, log, store, and manage incoming samples in accordance with established laboratory procedures.
Perform sample preparation for food and biological matrices using a range of extraction and preparation techniques.
Prepare stock solutions, calibration standards, and working solutions according to laboratory protocols.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with laboratory quality standards.
Support instrument operators by ensuring samples are prepared and ready for analysis.
Assist with inventory management, ordering consumables, and maintaining reagent stocks.
Ensure laboratory cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
Contribute to the development and optimization of sample preparation procedures.
Participate in quality assurance activities and support ISO accreditation initiatives.
Develop a working understanding of the analytical instrumentation used within the unit.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, or a related discipline.
Hands-on laboratory experience through academic or professional settings.
Familiarity with sample preparation techniques such as LLE, SPE, QuEChERS, microextractions, or microwave digestion.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to laboratory best practices.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Good command of English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or a related field.
Exposure to LC-MS, ICP-MS, mass spectrometry, or similar analytical technologies.
Familiarity with GLP principles and ISO accreditation requirements.
Experience working in research, testing, or analytical laboratory environments.
Experience with LIMS or laboratory information management systems.
