The University of Nicosia invites applications for the role of Genomics Laboratory Technologist / Senior Laboratory Technologist to join the Genomics and Data Science Unit at UNIC Athens. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the establishment and operation of a next-generation genomics facility, supporting cutting-edge research in human healthspan, longevity, biodefense, and AI-driven biological discovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform sample handling, preparation, labelling, and logging in accordance with established laboratory procedures.
Prepare reagents, materials, and kits required for sequencing runs and library preparation workflows.
Operate, maintain, and monitor laboratory equipment and Illumina sequencing platforms.
Perform nucleic acid extraction, quantification, quality control, and end-to-end DNA/RNA library preparation.
Assist with run setup, consumable management, and first-line troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
Follow and contribute to laboratory SOPs, quality procedures, and operational best practices.
Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
Support workflow optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with laboratory staff and researchers to ensure efficient and timely project delivery.
Qualifications:
Technologist Level
BSc, MSc, Diploma, HND, or equivalent qualification in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
Basic to intermediate laboratory experience.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work within structured laboratory procedures.
Good command of English, both written and spoken.
Senior Technologist Level
BSc, MSc, Diploma, HND, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
At least three years of relevant laboratory experience.
Strong hands-on laboratory operations experience.
Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage operational responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation.
Exposure to Illumina sequencing platforms and NGS workflows.
Experience with DNA and RNA extraction and quality control.
Familiarity with flow cytometry, single-cell platforms, multiplex immunoassays, or clinical analyzers.
Experience in research, clinical, diagnostic, hospital, or biotechnology laboratory environments.
