What you'll do
- Run and manage the Advisory program with 11th and 12th grade students
- Inform students about university/college application processes, procedures, and forms
- Provide individual and group counseling for personal, social, and academic challenges
- Assist with coordinating college visits

- Communicate student progress to parents
- Document and share student progress with the Academic and College counseling team
- Maintain a detailed Moodle Shell for the Advisory course
- Monitor student progress on Unifrog and assist with registration
- Track progress on College Essays and Personal Statements
- Coordinate visits to Writing Studio for application essay development
- Attend Counseling team meetings with Writing Studio personnel
- Assist students with scholarship opportunities
- Assist with student course selection for the next academic year
- Check in with students on quarterly progress reports
- Facilitate new student orientation
- Assist with presentations to parents during orientations and college events
- Attend relevant Professional Development meetings
- Work closely with the Head of Social Emotional Learning on student well-being
- Assist in scheduling process for next year’s courses
Key requirements
- 2+ years' experience
- Teaching certification or equivalent in Guidance Counseling/School Counseling
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate orally and in writing in English
- Knowledge of technological tools including word, excel, and Moodle
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Individual and group counseling skills
- Student progress monitoring and tracking
- Coordination skills for college visits and scheduling
- Experience with scholarship assistance
- Presentation skills for parent and student orientations
- Research skills to stay updated on college admissions trends

About the job
ACS Athens, a student-centered international school, embracing American educational philosophy, principles and values, is seeking to recruit an Academy Advisory Specialist (advisory takes place within a classroom setting). The Specialist reports to the Head of Academic and College Guidance.
DUTIES:
Runs and manages the Advisory program with 11th and 12th grade students.
Actively informs students about processes, procedures and forms that are directly related to university/college applications/admissions.
Makes available to students’ opportunities for individual and/or group counseling for personal, social and academic challenges.
Assists the Head of Academic and College Guidance with coordinating college visits.
Remains up to date with college admissions trends through independent research and professional development opportunities.
Communicates with parents the progress of the students.
Documents and shares with the Academic and College counseling team student’s progress on college planning and applications.
Maintains a detailed, informative Moodle Shell for the Advisory course in accordance with the departmental standards and benchmarks.
Monitors progress on Unifrog and helps students register for the platform.
Monitors and tracks student progress on College Essays, Personal Statements, etc.
Coordinates visits to the Writing Studio in order to further develop application essays.
Attends Counseling team meetings with the Writing Studio personnel.
Assists students with scholarship opportunities.
Provides assistance to student’s course selection for the succeeding year according to their future endeavors.
Check in with students on quarterly progress reports.
Facilitates new student orientation.
Assists with presentations to parents (new parent orientation, College evening, etc.)
Attends all relevant Professional Development meetings.
Keeps the Head of Academic and College Guidance abreast of all relevant issues.
Works closely with the Head of Social Emotional learning as needed regarding student socio-emotional well-being.
Assists in the scheduling process, working with the counselors on the student’s next year schedule.
Works closely with Registrar in relation to college/university application document requirements.
Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching certification or equivalent in Guidance Counseling/School Counseling.
Academic degrees from an accredited University/College in relevant field (MA);
At least two years of relevant experience.
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate, both orally and written, in English.
Ability to maintain confidentiality as necessary.
Knowledge of technological tools; word, excel, Moodle.
