Working closely with students and faculty, the Librarian supports learning across disciplines through instruction, resource curation, collaborative planning, and the development of an inclusive and inspiring learning environment.&nbsp;Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Promote Literacy and a Love of Reading:<ul><li>Design and implement initiatives that encourage reading engagement, lifelong learning, and a strong school-wide culture of literacy for students ages 12–18.</li><li>Coordinates with the Elementary School librarian for the implementation of a program designed to help fifth graders transition from Elementary School to Middle School with a focus on library services/resources/policies</li></ul></li><li>Teach Information Literacy and Research Skills:<ul><li>Provide direct instruction and embedded support in research, inquiry, evaluation of sources, digital citizenship, academic integrity, and ethical use of information.</li></ul></li><li>Center on Learners:<ul><li>Guides upper Academy students with writing assignments and researches</li><li>Develop inclusive, student-centered experiences and differentiate support for diverse learners, ensuring equitable access to resources and learning opportunities.</li></ul></li><li>Collaborate and Co-Teach:<ul><li>Partner with MS/HS teachers to design and deliver interdisciplinary units and inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with curriculum goals and best practices.</li></ul></li><li>Develop and Manage Collections:<ul><li>Curate, evaluate, and maintain a relevant, diverse, and balanced collection of print and digital resources aligned with academic programs and student interests.</li></ul></li><li>Leverage Technology and Digital Tools:<ul><li>Support students and faculty in using digital resources, databases, library systems, and educational technologies to enhance learning and research.</li></ul></li><li>Create an Inclusive and Welcoming Learning Commons:<ul><li>Maintain an environment that reflects diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect, supporting student well-being and purposeful engagement.</li></ul></li><li>Monitor and Support Learning:<ul><li>Use ongoing feedback and data (usage, circulation, learning outcomes, student needs) to refine services, strengthen programming, and improve resource alignment.</li></ul></li><li>Support Professional Learning:<ul><li>Contribute to faculty growth through resource sharing and instructional support around inquiry, research design, media literacy, and instructional tools.</li></ul></li><li>Support Co-curricular and Community Activities:<ul><li>Participate in school events, student clubs, reading initiatives, author visits, exhibitions, and other Learning Commons-related activities.</li></ul></li><li>Additional Responsibilities:<ul><li>Carry out other duties as assigned by school leadership. </li></ul></li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field (preferred: MLIS or equivalent)</li><li>Library/media certification or equivalent qualification (preferred)</li><li>Minimum 2 years of experience in a school library or similar educational setting</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English</li><li>Strong technology skills, including digital resources and library management systems</li><li>Strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills</li><li>Commitment to student-centered learning, inclusion, and continuous improvement</li><li>Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding and protection of children</li></ul>
