The University of Nicosia invites applications for the role of Junior Laboratory Technologist – Analytical Chemistry to join the Analytical Chemistry Unit at UNIC Athens. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to contribute to advanced analytical research while developing expertise in state-of-the-art laboratory technologies and instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, log, store, and manage incoming samples in accordance with established laboratory procedures.

  • Perform sample preparation for food and biological matrices using a range of extraction and preparation techniques.

  • Prepare stock solutions, calibration standards, and working solutions according to laboratory protocols.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with laboratory quality standards.

  • Support instrument operators by ensuring samples are prepared and ready for analysis.

  • Assist with inventory management, ordering consumables, and maintaining reagent stocks.

  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.

  • Contribute to the development and optimization of sample preparation procedures.

  • Participate in quality assurance activities and support ISO accreditation initiatives.

  • Develop a working understanding of the analytical instrumentation used within the unit.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, or a related discipline.

  • Hands-on laboratory experience through academic or professional settings.

  • Familiarity with sample preparation techniques such as LLE, SPE, QuEChERS, microextractions, or microwave digestion.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to laboratory best practices.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or a related field.

  • Exposure to LC-MS, ICP-MS, mass spectrometry, or similar analytical technologies.

  • Familiarity with GLP principles and ISO accreditation requirements.

  • Experience working in research, testing, or analytical laboratory environments.

  • Experience with LIMS or laboratory information management systems.
