As a Software Engineering Team Lead, you will lead and grow a team of software engineers while staying close to the technology. You will be responsible for the delivery, quality, and technical direction of your team's work, and for creating an environment where engineers can do their best work. Your responsibilities will include:
Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of software engineers, supporting their growth and career progression
Owning the planning, prioritization, and on-time delivery of your team's software projects
Driving technical direction and architectural decisions together with senior engineers and architects
Ensuring high standards of software quality, maintainability, and performance across the team's deliverables
Translating product and system requirements into clear plans, milestones, and team objectives
Removing blockers and managing dependencies across teams and stakeholders
Conducting one-on-ones, performance reviews, and contributing to hiring and onboarding
Fostering a collaborative, high-trust engineering culture and healthy team practices
Staying hands-on where it adds value — reviewing designs and code and contributing to key technical discussions
Required Skills and Qualifications
BSc or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field
At least 7 years of professional software development experience, including 2+ years leading or managing engineering teams
Proven track record of delivering complex software projects on time and to a high standard
Strong technical foundation in Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem, with the ability to engage credibly on design and architecture
Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices
Familiarity with RESTful / gRPC API design
Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices
Familiarity with microservices architecture
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and sound data modelling judgement
Ability to read technical specifications, shape requirements, and guide the team toward sound solutions
Comfortable working across both Windows and Linux environments
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
A people-first leadership style with a genuine interest in growing engineers

The following are not required but would strengthen your application:
Technical Breadth
Familiarity with a modern front-end framework (e.g., Angular, React, or Vue)
C / C++ programming background
Exposure to message brokers and streaming (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ)
Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
Leadership & Delivery
Experience with Agile/Scrum or other modern delivery methodologies
Experience scaling teams, hiring, and shaping engineering processes
Familiarity working towards measurable objectives and with project planning and tracking tools (e.g., Jira)
Stakeholder and budget management experience
Domain & Standards
Exposure to the Defense, Security, or Command & Control domain
Familiarity with Tactical Data Links or interoperability standards (e.g., Link 16, NATO standards)
Knowledge of geospatial / mapping technologies (e.g., GIS, OGC standards)
