senior platform engineer

We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate our on-premises infrastructure. You'll be part of the technical backbone behind the platforms that keep our betting and gaming systems running reliably around the clock — from virtualisation and storage through to networking and security — working closely with DevOps, SRE, and Database Engineering to keep our hybrid on-premises and cloud estate reliable, secure, and audit-ready.

What you’ll be doing

• Build and operate our on-premises VMware virtual infrastructure — vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi — and contribute technical input into how the virtualisation platform evolves.

• Support on-premises storage operations, including SAN, NAS, and enterprise flash platforms — tiering, performance tuning, capacity planning, and lifecycle management — and feed recommendations into the wider storage strategy.

• Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions for virtualised workloads — failover clustering, replication, and recovery testing — providing input into the design that the Infrastructure Manager signs off.

• Implement and maintain network configurations for on-premises environments — VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancers — while contributing design input alongside network engineering.

• Build and improve infrastructure automation, primarily using Ansible, to reduce manual operations and improve reliability across the on-premises estate.

• Implement and maintain infrastructure security hardening standards at the hypervisor, OS, and network level, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for sports betting operations.

• Contribute to security and compliance audit readiness, maintaining documentation, access control records, and evidence of controls across the on-premises estate.

• Provide infrastructure-level support for our database platforms — storage performance, HA configuration, and backup infrastructure — in close collaboration with Database Engineering.

• Support data centre operations, including physical infrastructure management, capacity planning, environmental monitoring, and cabling standards.

The Player

• Significant, hands-on experience designing and operating on-premises infrastructure — data centre, networking, hardware, and enterprise storage (SAN/NAS).

• Deep hands-on expertise with VMware virtualisation — vSphere, ESXi, clustering, and virtual networking

• Strong automation skills, with proven experience using Ansible in production environments.

• Working familiarity with AWS fundamentals, enough to collaborate effectively with DevOps on hybrid on-premises/cloud connectivity.

• A strong grounding in network architecture — routing, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancing.

• Comfort working with database infrastructure — storage performance, high availability, and backup — alongside a Database Engineering team.

• Experience contributing to security and compliance audits, with an eye for documentation and access governance.

• A collaborative mindset and the confidence to work cross-functionally with DevOps, SRE, and Database Engineering to keep our hybrid estate reliable and secure.
