The Senior Manager, Payroll (EMEA/APAC) at Deel is a unique and challenging management role in a highly complex global environment. At Deel, the role is responsible for a region’s internal payroll and payments internal team members and working directly with product to build and influence our product roadmap for our global payroll offerings on platform (of which we are users). This role is an opportunity to leverage experience, knowledge and skills in the global payroll environment to deliver accurate on time payroll whilst planning for, and delivering at, scale.

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for accurate, on time payroll processing for payroll and contractor payments within an assigned region in accordance with company policies, procedures, and local regulatory standards.

  • Responsible for the administration and delivery of end to end payroll operations and processing for the assigned region leveraging Deel global payroll as a managed payroll service provider (using our Payroll Managers around the world processing payroll for our international internal and EOR entities).

  • Coordinates and delivers work to migrate and implement new legal entities into our payroll system of record.

  • Responsible for overall operational effectiveness for the implementation of best practices, process reviews, automation and improvements across global and regional payroll as a member of the payroll leadership team, to include partnering and aligning with our global payroll operations servicing and supporting our customers on platform.

  • Responsible for hiring, managing, and developing our internal payroll team for the region, to include identifying levels of performance and engagement, training and enablement, recognition, timezone and global work coverage, and unlocking next level growth and opportunities.

  • Manage payroll compliance and audits across assigned countries and ensure that payroll cycles and deadlines are strictly adhered to in accordance with all payroll regulations and payroll regulatory changes.

  • Manage, oversee, and own where necessary audits, audit outcomes, inquiries, and claims on tax matters in partnership with finance, tax and legal, as well as our EOR payroll, tax, and HR operations teams.

  • Review and recommend areas for automation where we can reduce cycle time and costs in processing of information, data and payments.

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert and process owner for payroll related activities and inquiries.

  • Ensure the accuracy of payroll financial information and compliance, including SOX and other internal audit control requirements to the best of your ability.

  • Oversee, assist with and manage internal ticketing systems and payroll questions and inquiries.

  • Analyze payroll metrics and develop scalable recommendations as we grow payroll and payments from 5,000 to 10,000 team members and beyond.

  • Ensure seamless adoption of payroll tools, driving efficiency in payroll administration and reporting, but also in using Deel on Deel and partnering to build the best payroll product for enterprise clients like us everywhere.

  • Drive diligence, manage where necessary and otherwise participate in acquisitions and migrations to ensure smooth implementation, onboarding, and user experience.

  • Liaise with local and national government authorities and vendors as required.

  • Lead change management efforts, partnering with cross-functional teams to implement new processes, tools, and technologies. Provide clear communication, training, and ongoing support to ensure successful adoption and to minimize disruption.

  • Other duties as assigned, as the scope and focus areas for People continues to expand.

What You Will Bring:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in payroll processing, operations and management, with direct experience in a global, multinational company.

  • Strong background in both United States federal, state and local payroll and taxation alongside international payroll experience in key countries such as the United Kingdom, Spain, Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, Mexico, Brazil or other complex countries.

  • Experience in a hyper growth, high volume company and building 0 to 1 but also scaling 1 to n from an efficiency and operations perspective.

  • Experience in payroll taxation and compliance reporting, audits, and negotiations.

  • Strong project management experience to build, manage, drive, implement and iterate processes at scale.

  • Experience in payroll product and services implementation.

  • Experience in process automation and implementing best payroll practices globally.

  • Experience managing a globally dispersed, remote team in various countries and timezones to deliver accurate and timely payroll, but also to deliver a great user experience.

  • Experience in M&A due diligence, implementation of global acquisitions, and harmonization of payroll tools, policies and practices.

  • Experience with new country set ups to include new entities, payroll processing requirements, and regulation.

  • A passion for workflows, efficiency, and consistency, paired with a meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • The ability to align company needs with payroll best practices, while crafting frameworks that are tailored to the company’s unique culture and growth trajectory.

  • Discretion and sound judgment in handling sensitive information and making decisions that affect both individuals and the organization.

  • A proactive problem-solving mindset, anticipating challenges and addressing potential risks before they escalate.

  • Demonstrated experience driving large scale implementations requiring process changes, project management and change management.

  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people with diverse styles; make informed decisions, find solutions, encourage and support change; and, to constructively deal with conflicts and leverage different perspectives.

  • Excellent approach to problem analysis and resolution at both a strategic and functional level.

  • Innovative thinker able to make decisions independently and expeditiously; and, to translate strategy into action.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally is a global, matrixed environment.

  • Ability to perform in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.

  • Experience working in a globally distributed team, including working with/managing contractors and technical resources.

  • Outstanding attention to detail and quantitative/qualitative analysis skills to assess Return on Investment of all programs.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously successfully.

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, with a strong focus on delivering results.

  • Excellent stakeholder management with a focus on continuous improvement and regular communication leveraging data and insights.

  • Strong passion for learning about our products and services through in-house and external training.

  • Experience in high-growth /pre-IPO Technology companies is highly preferred.

  • Proficiency with Google Office suite preferred.

  • Prior experience with Deel software or services preferred.
