The Goal

As a Software Engineer in Test you will be involved in working alongside Developers, Software Architects, other QA team members and Senior Software Engineers under the supervision of the QA Lead to shape and implement the customer and product deliverables that will drive us forward in our strategic initiatives. 

You will own tickets from a QA perspective, attend sessions independently raising issues, risks and gaps in requirements. You should be self-assured and able to break requirements into scenarios without support and write test cases – both manual and automation with minimal support. 

What you’ll be doing 

• Active participation to the success of a self-organising agile team through proactive contribution on 3 amigos, identifying the automation scope, eliciting, authoring and executing test cases 
• Identify which level of testing an automation scenario should be created within - component, app group or integration testing 
• Promotes and Adhere to Continuous Integration and High Quality / Fast Feedback Principals   
• Able to break up QA scenarios of medium complexity into discreet elements/test cases 
• Task planning and supporting the execution of Test Plans for large scale projects within the committed deadlines
• Analyse requirements of medium or higher complexity and identify test scenarios that achieve the maximum coverage levels 
• Transform test scenarios of medium to high complexity into test cases
• Work independently on automating test cases, executing test cases and retesting defects with all the above entities being of moderate complexity
• Conduct peer review for scenarios and automation test cases of moderate complexity 
• Analyse feature updates/new features and identify areas for regression testing 
• Gathering and documenting testing requirements and producing a test estimate for a small to medium, multi-day piece of work
• Configure the automation framework on your own environment to be able to run tests locally, debug and fix issues 
• Write relevant component, app group and integration automated tests to allow continuous integration of project
• Collate basic metrics - defects raised, priorities, numbers of test cases executed passed/failed etc. to report to other team members and line manager 
• Monitor continuous integration pipelines, debug test failures, escalate defects and resolve automation issues in a timely fashion

The Player

We are looking for a Software Engineer in Test with strong automation knowledge working ideally within a framework with integrations to third party software. 

Key Success Factors

• Experience of using test tools both enterprise and open source
• BSc or equivalent in IT/Engineering/Scientific or related discipline
• Demonstrable ability to define and construct automated test cases to a high level (e.g. using Gherkin / Cucumber, Selenium, QTP or Postman etc.)
• Thorough knowledge of structured test methods and procedures
• Proven experience of testing complex user interfaces
• Experience with various development methodologies; Agile, TDD or Waterfall
• 5+ years’ experience in QA of which at least 2 years’ experience working with test automation tools 

Nice to Haves

• Experience with JIRA and TestRail   
• Some experience developing test cases for software developed using Akka, Kafka, Scala and Cassandra. 
• API Testing with Postman   
• A working understanding of Docker, Ansible, Maven, Jenkins, and Git (BitBucket)
• Understanding of Behaviour/Test Driven Development. 
• Experience working with version control systems
• Qualified to ISEB/ISTQB Foundation level
