head, data and business intelligence

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our Data and Business Intelligence team. The Head of Data and Business Intelligence will play a pivotal role in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization, ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and relevance of our data assets. This position reports directly to the Director of Data Science.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy aligned with OpenBet's business objectives. Establish data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.
• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust data infrastructure, including data pipelines, warehouses, and ETL processes.
• Manage and mentor a team of Data/BI Engineers and Data Analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with our stakeholder to identify and prioritize data and reporting needs, ensuring timely delivery of data solutions. Provide guidance and support to business stakeholders in interpreting and leveraging data insights effectively.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering, recommending innovations to enhance efficiency and scalability.
• Drive the development of insightful and actionable reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support strategic decision-making.
• Define KPIs and metrics to measure business performance, conducting in-depth analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Proven hands-on and managerial experience in business intelligence or data engineering, with a track record of success in leading complex data projects.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working with cloud-based data warehouses and analytics platforms, including proficiency in querying, data modelling, and performance optimization.
• Proficiency in ETL orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow for managing complex data workflows and dependencies.
• Experience with Reporting/Analytics tools (eg Power BI, QlikView, etc).
• Experience with version control platforms (e.g. GitHub, Gitlab, Bitbucket etc.)

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience with Jira and Confluence.
• Experience with cloud-based data technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Exposure to cloud technologies (Snowflake Data Platform, Blob Storage, dbt, etc).
• Exposure to DAX and MDX language.
• Experience designing and implementing real-time data pipelines using Kafka or similar streaming platforms.
