senior autonomous systems engineer
About the job
Intellectica is recruiting a highly skilled Senior Autonomous Systems Engineer for a newly established AI & Machine Learning spinoff within a leading aerospace, defense, and high-technology group, based in Psixiko, Atttiki, operating under a hybrid working model. Reporting directly to the CTO, the ideal candidate will actively contribute to the design and development of next-generation autonomous and intelligent systems. Working across the full autonomous systems stack, from perception and planning to system orchestration and deployment, the candidate will shape scalable, production-grade AI-driven platforms.
Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:
Design and evolve the software architecture of advanced autonomous systems and high-performance AI platforms, in collaboration with cross-functional teams (ML, Data Science, Vision AI)
Own and drive the end-to-end implementation of complex features within autonomous frameworks, ensuring scalability and performance
Develop robust, high-performance software components primarily in C++ and Python, adhering to engineering best practices
Design and implement core modules across perception, sensor fusion, localization, planning, control, and decision-making systems
Integrate and optimize autonomous frameworks and middleware stacks for real-world deployment, including close collaboration with AI/ML engineers for production-grade systems
Contribute to simulation environments, validation pipelines, and hardware/software integration, ensuring system-level consistency and performance
Drive code quality and system reliability through peer reviews, testing strategies (unit, integration, simulation, stress), and identification of architectural improvements and performance bottlenecks
Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows, while ensuring quality, safety, cybersecurity, and reliability across the full product lifecycle, and contributing to mentoring and engineering excellence initiatives
Represent the organization in technical discussions, meetups, conferences, and customer-facing innovation initiatives
Professional experience & qualifications of a successful candidate:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
5+ years of professional experience in Autonomous Systems, Robotics, or Software Engineering, with strong expertise in C++ and Python
Proven experience working with autonomous frameworks, robotics middleware, and real-time distributed systems
Solid understanding of key autonomy domains, including perception, localization, sensor fusion, planning, and control
Strong software engineering foundation, including multithreading, system design, APIs, performance optimization, and development in Linux environments
Hands-on experience with hardware–software integration, including working with sensor systems (LiDAR, cameras, GNSS, IMUs, radar)
Experience with ROS/ROS2 ecosystems, including data formats, as well as simulation and validation environments for autonomous systems
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, containerized environments, and modern development workflows
Exposure to cloud-native architectures, edge computing, GPU acceleration, or high-performance computing
Knowledge of functional safety, cybersecurity, and experience integrating AI/ML models into production-grade autonomous systems
Proficient in Greek and English
Core competencies of a successful candidate:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to decompose complex technical challenges
Passion for building reliable, scalable, and intelligent autonomous systems
Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams with highly skilled engineers and scientists
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in a structured manner
You embrace a feedback culture and actively contribute to continuous improvement
High sense of ownership, accountability, and engineering craftsmanship
