Byron College is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Head of Key Stage 2 with the potential to develop into Assistant Head of Primary. This is an exciting opportunity for an established Key Stage leader with a strong record of impact who is ready to contribute to wider Primary leadership and whole-school development.
The successful candidate will lead Key Stage 2 while working closely with the Head of Primary, Senior Leadership Team and Middle Leaders to strengthen teaching and learning, curriculum coherence and leadership capacity. A key aspect of the role will be supporting the development of students not only academically, but also through the embedding of competencies and values that contribute to their personal growth, wellbeing and readiness for future learning.
About the Role
As Head of Key Stage 2 / Assistant Head of Primary, you will:
Provide professional leadership and direction for the delivery of the British National Curriculum in Key Stage 2.
Lead, support and develop the Key Stage 2 teaching team to ensure consistent, high-quality teaching and learning.
Support curriculum planning, assessment and monitoring to raise academic standards and ensure progression.
Play a key role in developing and embedding student competencies within the curriculum, supporting the wider personal, social and emotional development of each student.
Promote inclusive practice and strong pastoral provision across Years 3–6.
Contribute to whole-school improvement planning, self-evaluation and strategic initiatives.
Build positive and professional relationships with students, parents and staff.
Deputise for the Head of Primary when required, contributing to wider leadership responsibilities.
This role offers a clear pathway into broader Primary leadership, with opportunities to contribute to whole-school strategy as an Assistant Head of Primary.
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
Qualified Teacher Status and extensive experience teaching the British National Curriculum.
At least three years’ experience leading a Key Stage or equivalent, with demonstrable impact.
Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment and effective pedagogy.
A commitment to developing the whole child, including academic achievement, wellbeing and key competencies.
Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
A reflective, collaborative and solution-focused approach.
Experience in an EAL-rich or international context is desirable.
