About the job

As a Technical Superintendent at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical management of assigned vessels. This role is strategically important in maintaining operational excellence and compliance, while serving as a vital link between ship and shore. You will provide technical guidance, oversee maintenance and repairs, manage budgets, and ensure adherence to international regulations and company standards, supporting both client satisfaction and fleet performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and support BSM’s strategic goals by staying updated on regulations and participating in industry initiatives.

  • Ensure vessels meet contractual and regulatory requirements, including technical condition and certification compliance.

  • Maintain strong client relationships and communicate on technical, operational, and budgetary matters.

  • Provide technical and operational support to ship staff, including guidance on safety, maintenance, and drydock planning.

  • Monitor vessel performance, machinery condition, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and safety.

  • Develop and oversee maintenance and repair plans, including major refits and drydock activities within budget and timelines.

  • Prepare and manage vessel budgets, forecasting costs for maintenance and regulatory compliance.

  • Conduct vessel inspections and audits, ensuring timely reporting and closure of findings.

  • Promote and implement health, safety, environmental, and quality standards on board.

  • Manage purchasing activities, ensuring timely supply of quality spare parts and compliance with procurement standards.

  • Coach and mentor ship staff, identify training needs, and support career development initiatives.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of management systems and operational processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent; or Chief Engineer’s qualification.

  • Minimum 3 years sailing experience as Senior Officer, or 3 years shore experience as Technical Superintendent in ship management or ownership.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of vessel technical requirements and voyage regulations.

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.

  • Strong negotiation and people management abilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Fluency in English and proficiency in PC applications.
