About the job

ACS Athens, a student-centered international school, embracing American educational philosophy, principles and values, is seeking to recruit an English Literature Teacher to teach High School students (with focus on American, European or world literature). IB/DP training and experience preferred. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging instruction, integrate technology effectively, and cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and a love for literature.

The teacher reports to the High School Principal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Engaging Instruction: Provide meaningful and interactive learning experiences in all aspects of English Language Arts, English Literature and Language in Media.

  • Centre on learners.

  • Develops effective approaches to teaching and learning.

  • Work within global contexts: Help students understand different cultures.

  • Explore significant content: Develop disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meets rigorous international standards.

  • Personalize Learning: Monitor student progress and adapt instruction, materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Innovate & Integrate Technology: Explore and implement creative teaching strategies, utilizing technology to enhance student engagement and confidence.

  • Foster an Inclusive Classroom: Create a supportive, culturally responsive environment that values diversity and promotes equity in learning.

  • Collaborate & Contribute: Work closely with colleagues, sharing best practices and contributing to team and department goals.

  • Commit to Professional Growth: Stay current with best practices through ongoing professional development.

  • Additional Responsibilities: Support school initiatives and fulfill other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English Literature (Master’s preferred).

  • Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant high school teaching experience.

  • Certifications: Licensed to teach Grades 9-12 English.

  • Preferred Skills & Experience:

    • IB/DP training and teaching experience.

    • Background in team teaching or integrated curriculum instruction.

    • Training in Writing Project methodologies.

  • Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students ages 15-18.

  • Lifelong Learner: Committed to continuous growth in content knowledge and teaching methodologies.
