What you'll do
- Lead and develop Stores/DC QA and Fresh QC teams with objective setting, workload allocation, coaching, and standardising inspections and reporting
- Own and manage store and DC quality, food safety and compliance programmes including audits, site inspections, hygiene verification, and corrective actions
- Plan and manage audit readiness for authority inspections and third-party certification audits ensuring timely closure of findings
- Define and improve fresh quality specifications and acceptance criteria aligned with buying specs and supplier capabilities
- Implement end-to-end freshness monitoring across the supply chain including inbound checks and handling standards
- Oversee supplier certification requirements and support investigations of quality and food safety issues
- Drive fresh waste and claims reduction through root-cause analysis and operational improvements
- Design and deliver quality and food safety training for store and DC teams
- Maintain governance and reporting including KPIs, trend analysis and action tracking
- Act as escalation point for major quality or food safety incidents coordinating investigations and communications
Key requirements
- 5+ years' experience
- Quality management systems including ISO 22000, ISO 9001, BRC, IFS, HACCP
- Food safety and hygiene verification
- Fresh produce quality control for fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish
- Audit management and compliance management
- Root cause analysis and corrective action management
- Training delivery and stakeholder management
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Investigation coordination and supply chain freshness monitoring
- Food Science and Technology / Chemistry / Food Technologypreferred

About the job
The Quality Assurance & Fresh Produce QC Manager will lead quality assurance and food safety execution across stores and distribution centres (DCs), while ensuring best-in-class fresh produce quality control across the end-to-end supply chain. This role supervises teams of QC specialists for fresh categories (fruits and vegetables, meat, fish) and manages internal/external audit resources to maintain compliance, reduce waste, and protect customer trust.
What you will focus on
Lead and develop the Stores/DC QA and Fresh QC organisation: set objectives, allocate workload, coach teams, and standardise inspection and reporting methods
Own store and DC quality, food safety and legal compliance programmes: internal audits, site inspections, hygiene verification, and corrective action management
Plan and manage audit readiness for competent authority inspections and third-party certification audits (e.g., ISO certification), ensuring timely closure of findings
Define and continuously improve fresh quality specifications (F&V, meat, fish) and acceptance criteria; ensure alignment with buying specs and supplier capabilities
Implement end-to-end freshness monitoring across the supply chain: inbound checks, DC handling/storage standards, store execution, and DSD/local producer assessments
Oversee supplier certification requirements for fresh categories (e.g., food safety standards, local producer assessments) and support investigations of quality/food safety issues
Drive reduction of fresh waste and claims through root-cause analysis, and operational improvements with Logistics, Merchandising and Suppliers
Design and deliver quality/food safety training for store and DC teams (with HR/Training and Operations), including onboarding and refresher programmes
Maintain effective governance and reporting: KPIs (e.g., audit scores, non-conformities, waste/shrink drivers, freshness conformance), trend analysis and action tracking
Act as escalation point for major quality/food safety incidents in stores/DC; coordinate investigations, containment actions, communications, and lessons learned
Who we are looking for
Degree in Food Science Technology, Chemistry or relevant. Alternatively, a Bachelor followed by a Food Technology Master Degree
A minimum of five years’ experience in Quality Management within Food industry or consulting firm
Demonstrated skills in quality management systems (e.g. ISO 22000, ISO 9001, BRC, IFS, HACCP System ELOT 1416)
Fluency in English language, both oral and written
Excellent knowledge of MS Office
